by nicegospel Fri Aug 09, 2013 12:20 pmAhead of October 5 Local Government election in Anambra State, the state’s chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has concluded arrangements to manipulate the exercise in its favour.
PDP has therefore vowed to resist the plot, adding that its members are being mobilised and greater awareness being created at the wards and communities to scuttle the plans.
This is also coming on the heels of PDP’s primary election, which would be conducted by a committee from the national leadership of the party led by former Senate President, Adolphus Nwabara.
This was disclosed by the Chairman, PDP’s Local Government Primary Election Screening Committee and South East Publicity Secretary, Ali Odefa, who addressed reporters on Thursday at the party’s office in Awka.
He said: “We have it on good authority that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has a grand plot to rig the chairmanship and councillorship election in Anambra State and this they want to do to ensure that the PDP does not win any ward.
“But lucky enough, we have disclosed it and we shall do all we can to ensure that this does not happen. We have mobilised our members and created enough awareness in that regard.
“We urge our members to go about their business freely and peacefully without fear of any thing because we are taking charge of the situation and we urge every one to come out en masse and vote for the party.
“We are also asking the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission ANSIEC to be fair by giving all the political parties a level playing ground while the election is on.
“Already the four separate committees set up by PDP for the screening of aspirants and candidates of commence work since three day now with over 400 councillorship aspirants and twenty nine chairmanship aspirants already screened”.
On the readiness of PDP for the election, the state chairman, Kenneth Emeakayi said that the party has put all it has in motion to ensure victory.
Emeakayi also confirmed that Nwabara would head four other members to conduct and monitor the primary election, while Alimi Yao Abubakar heads the appeal panel.
Member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Ben Nwankwo, heads the election panel, along
with former South East chairman of PDP, Okey Ezenwa.
