This is in its bid at ensuring a more credible, free and fair elections in the country, ahead of the 2015 general elections. Conducting elections that are free,fair,peaceful and credible in Nigeria has always been a herculian task for the electoral umpire due to many challenges. However these challenges, a relative level of success was achieved during the 2011 general elections in Nigeria.
As the 2015 elections beckon, Nigerians are hopeful that INEC would improve on areas of challenges during the 2011 general election. This clamour by Nigeria and INEC’S desire to achieving a more credible election in Nigeria necessitated this experience sharing and confidence building conference on the voter register and continuous voter registration. The meeting at the instance of the independent national electoral commission in partnership with development partners brings together stakeholders to share experiences of past elections and chat a new course towards the next general elections. The INEC boss in his words says the commission is increasingly fine tuning a process which will ensure a more credible and fair elections in 2015. Parts of its plans are commencement of issuance of permanent voters card before the end of the year as well as continuous voter registration. With 870,000 multiple registration record in Nigeria, the INEC boss says ensuring credible elections is a multi stakeholder task that requires the collaboration and commitment of other role players in the country.
